    Alumni chapters award scholarships

Last spring, Virginia Tech alumni chapters awarded more than $118,000 to incoming Virginia Tech freshman, a new record scholarship amount. Deborah Day Shelton, director for alumni relations, says, "This is a nice increase in totals. We had set a goal of $100,000 by the year 2000, and our chapters met that goal early. Our chapters understand the importance of supporting student scholarships." Chapters coordinate many social events, such as golf tournaments, dinners, and raffles, to raise funds for the annual scholarships. Funds for the following scholars were awarded from the alumni association's scholarship endowment.
